O! and other letters

Merchant City Festival / 21-24 July 2011 / The Briggait

O! and other letters was an exhibition and printshop created by typographer Edwin Pickstone for the Merchant City Festival.

At once an exhibition and a working case room Edwin Pickstone produced one new poster design a day, setting type by hand, on a traditional letterpress printing press within the open workshop space. A series of four posters set out to investigate the cultural, industrial and graphic heritage of the Merchant City.

Biography

Edwin creates unique typographic artworks and designs for printed media.  He is currently artist in residence in the department of Visual Communication at Glasgow School of Art and his design and artwork has featured in the following publications: Eye, no.57 vol.15 (UK) Grafik, no.170 (UK) Ultrabold, The Journal of St. Brides Library, no. 6 (UK) Pata, no. 9 (ITL) Transmission, no. 6, 7, 8 (UK) Japandesign.net (JPN) Susology, no. 2 (UK) Plain Surface (UK) and Bypass Magazine (PT). He has also exhibited his work in Glasgow, London, Philadelphia and Belfast.
